Day in the of a Minigunner

Miniseries 1 (Command and Conquer)

"Ten-hutt! I want all you maggots up and ready pronto!" shouted the drill-sergeant. "Today might be one of your lucky days if the Command calls for it, so get out here on the double!"

'It can't be later that four in the morning." Thought Tim, 'judging by how little natural light there is."

"Hoy! Bean! Got your head in the clouds again?" The drill-sergeant rushed toward Tim, spittle flying every which way. "You're paid, not to dilly-dally, but to do as I order you. Now MOVE!"

"Yes sir, right away sir." Tim ran out of the squad room as fast as he could, and had a rifle shoved into his hands.

"Morning bean, you'll need that." An instructor said.

'I don't know why we're always given one of these, just to give them back minutes later.' Tim though ruefully to himself.

He ran to the shooting range to start firing his rifle, when suddenly;

"Tim Gunner! Report to the Barracks immediately!" A voice sounded over the speaker system loudly.

Tim reported as ordered, and was met by a tall shadowy person, whose height, age and gender he could not guess through sight alone, who said, "Tim Gunner, you have been Chosen. Put on the gear to your right," the shadowy person pointed to the corner in Tim's right, where a pair of golden coveralls were folded neatly with boots, "reload, and report outside the Barracks. You're going into the field." The voice of this person, like the image presented, was genderless, and didn't indicate age.

Having put on his new gear and reloaded his rifle, he left through the entrance he came in, to see the entire scene around him different from what it was before he entered the Barracks. Gone was the rifle range and squad room, and here was an entirely new battlefield, full of structures and tanks he knew not the name, minus the Barracks he just left.

The tanks, and other infantry that Tim now sees, were patrolling the surrounding area, or guarding one specific location, on the lookout for enemy troops.

"Unit ready." The speaker system voiced to indicate Tim finished his training.

Tim whistled at his new surrounding and the none-too-shabby notification system to let others know trainees had finished training, before he finally dropped to the ground.

"Nuclear warhead approaching." Said the same voice over the speaker system once more.

"Oh shi-" Tim started, before burning to a crisp with the resulting explosion happening near him.

"Your mission is a failure." A cool, calm female voice said.
